Bible Stories for His Beautiful Princess

So here is my honest review!

I have spend a lot of time recently trying to find a easy to understand, devotional type book I could share with Emma.  We tried a few popular kids devotionals, but they were a little above her language level and we had to quickly discard those books.  We just went back to reading the toddler Bible they both had.  But I kept hoping I could find a good fit for her as she is getting older.

I was thrilled to see Bible Stories for His Beautiful Princess by Sheri Rose Sheperd come out as one of the choices on Tyndale House Blog Network to be reviewed last month.  I quickly sign up to try it out.  It came in the mail last week, and Emma and I quickly opened it together. She loves loves getting mail.  She asked right then to start reading it.  The cover was so cute and really engaged her right off the bat.  We sat down and read about five stories right then.  They were easy to understand and so well written.  Emma was able to follow the stories easily.  I was so happy!!

Sheri Rose Sheperd choose great stories to share, she starts each story with a verse, an easy to understand storybook type telling of the story, a simple prayer, and a take away point from Princess Jewel.  Emma loves what Princess Jewel has to say and repeats it with me each time.  I love how she wraps the story up in a way kids can understand.  We also spend a lot of time talking about the beautiful illustrations by Shelley Dieterichs.  They really bring each story to life for kids and adults alike.

I will happily be recommending this book to all of my friends with girls.  I think most girls will love sharing Bible stories with Princess Jewel as their guide.

A Great Book By Jessica Dotta

I love books and I love to read, might be why I am now a part-time librarian hehe!

So, when I found out that I could review books through Tyndal House Publishing I jumped for joy!  I love getting to read books before the hit store shelves, and I love getting a package in the mail just for me. 

I recently choose to review Born of Persuasion by Jessica Dotta.  It is the first in a new series called The Price of Privilege, and when the back of the book says "The deeper you wander into some stories, the more complex the riddle grows"  they are not lying.  This book kept me guessing to the very end and then left you hanging till the next book.  I love books that you cannot figure out.  It really kept the pages turning fast! 

This story follows a young lady as she fights through what society requires, at the time of the story, and what she must do to survive.  There is evil, goodness, sadness, and romance all intertwined to make a great book.  Just when you think you know who she should trust, you find out you are wrong.

If you love historical romance laced with mystery and God, then this is a great choice for you to pick up.  But be warned you will not put it down till the last page is turned.

Confessions of a Raging Perfectionist

Something I have recently started doing is writing book reviews for Tyndale House Publishing.  It is fun and a great way to read some amazing new books as they are released. I love to read books! I recently started to look for more books that can help me have a better walk with God and learn more about my self.  This book did both those things in a very easy to follow and read format.

 Confessions of a Raging Perfectionist by Amanda Jenkins is the book.  The title just spoke to me on so many levels.  I can sometimes lean towards OCD/perfection seeking.  Okay to be honest I mostly lean towards those two things.  So, I was interested in what Amanda would have to say and how I could learn to turn from that and turn more towards God.  I loved the book from the start.  I loved how she basically writes it like a journal, including a stat like list at the beginning of each chapter that sets the chapter's topic up.  It really felt like I was reading her personal journal.  She lays so much of her own life out there and her own struggles in her walk of faith.

I will say the chapter on Diet Coke being a vice hurt a little, I never thought of my diet coke drinking as something that takes me away from leaning on God.  But what she says in that chapter is right about vices of any type "they shouldn't be a substitute for relying on God, and they shouldn't supersede the needs of people around me."  Sometimes diet coke and long bubble baths can be more important then time with God and that is not right.  No, I don't have to stop those things but they should not be more important then quiet time and prayer time.

I really enjoyed reading her journey and I have some new insight into my own issues with trying to be perfect and some new tips for my faith walk.  I think you would also enjoy to read this book and learning more about Amanda.  Check out some of her author Q and A!
